Amoroso earned LEED Gold on the Bauchet Street Project, a design build, multi-use building for the LA County Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA).   Initially awarded with a goal of Silver, the Design-Build team hit almost every goal prompting the Owner to increase the requirement. LEED Gold was achieved with added PV credits.

The design was Amoroso's responsibility. Thus, we held the first meeting to determine which LEED credit points should be targeted.  During this meeting a list of 36 points were selected and used to guide plan development and specifications, especially those of the product manufacturers.  Our designated LEED consultant, Green Dinosaur, put together the Basis of Design (BOD) which specified thermal and energy requirements.

Some provisions needed to be addressed with the Municipal Transportation Agency.  There were too many skylights to comply with Title 24; we removed over half, increasing the size of each one and locating them in areas that provided the most impact for building users.

In three design iterations we had an approved set of construction documents.  We found the best value was in energy efficiencies. We added three points by increasing efficiencies from a goal of 14 percent to 24.5 percent with a small expenditure increasing insulation thickness.  This had us close to Gold, and with solar credits from an existing PV farm, the project earned 43 points; Sustainable Sites, 8 points; Water Efficiency, 4 points, Energy & Atmosphere 14 points; Materials & Resources 6 points; Indoor Environmental Quality 8 points; Innovation & Design 3 points for a total of 43 points.

This project is a perfect example of how Amoroso's teams go above and beyond to achieve excellence for our clients. In this particular situation the team would have been able to easily achieve LEED Silver certification, but with a little creativity and communication, they enhanced the value of the project for the client, community of Los Angeles, and environment for future generations to come. In addition, they demonstrated to our client the value of our team, which will undoubtedly lead to more project opportunities in the near future.
