National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction Week 2021

May 12, 2021

Amoroso Construction is proud to participate in OSHA's 2021 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction Week, which took place May 3-7. In a year unlike any other, which brought a host of new safety requirements to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus on jobsites, it is important to remember the danger that our construction employees face every day from falls on the jobsite.

Project Update! Fire Station #6 and Fire Training Center, City of Hayward

March 31, 2021

Amoroso’s work on the City of Hayward’s new fire station and training center continues, under observance of Covid-19 safety protocols. After breaking ground in early October of 2020, foundation has been poured, structural steel has been erected, and construction is progressing.

The project includes nine new structures, including a firehouse/classroom building, apparatus building, hangar building, training tower, burn Building, storage building, underground Search and Rescue (USAR)/BART Structure, covered break area building, and entry structure, as well as significant site and landscape improvements.

Located on the grounds of the Hayward Executive Airport, the new center will serve the surrounding community in multiple ways, including improved fire response capabilities and top-of-the-line training for all incoming firefighters and emergency response medical personnel. Additionally, the project includes classrooms to be utilized by the local community college, Chabot College, for the expansion of their Fire Training Academy. The educational facilities will also serve local high school students interested in pursuing careers in firefighting and emergency response.

Amoroso is grateful for the collaborative efforts of the City of Hayward, the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District (CLPCCD), and our personnel, to keep work on this essential building moving forward.

If you would like to track the project’s progress, please follow us on social media for regular updates. San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Recognizes Amoroso's Commitment to Safety

Sutro Reservoir Rehab and Seismic Upgrade

December 17, 2014

The San Francisco Public Utlities Commission presented an award in recognition of S. J. Amoroso's committment to safety on the Sutro Reservoir Rehabilitation and Seismic Upgrade Project. Since April 2009, construction projects reached seven million working hours on the Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) without major injury.

Originally completed in 1953, Sutro Reservoir is the third largest reservoir in the City of San Francisco and adjacent to numerous fault lines. Seismic enhancements were required to ensure uninterrupted operations in the event of a major earthquake. The construction project included strengthening the reservoir roof and supporting structures, as well as upgrading the existing foundation. In addition to the seismic upgrades, Amoroso was responsible for other structural, mechanical, civil, electrical and security upgrades.

Departmental Update- Safety

September 3, 2014

Safety is an interesting topic at Amoroso; it's simultaneously the source of our biggest frustrations and greatest pride. We are never simply satisfied with our safety efforts because satisfaction can breed complacency. Yet we are exceedingly proud to be one of only 21 contractors in all of California who have achieved membership into Cal OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program.

"S. J. Amoroso's performance was exemplary in all phases of construction. They maintained an on-site crew of very efficient people who were able to build an excellent working relationship with subcontractors, architects, inspectors, vendors, outside contractors, and school district personnel… In addition, S. J. Amoroso was very safety-conscious and demonstrated safety first at all times. It was a true pleasure to work with S. J. Amoroso on this project and we would not hesitate to invite them to bid any other work we may have in the future and to recommend them to other school districts in the area as well." Kathy D.
