National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction Week 2021

Amoroso's participation in OSHA's fall-prevention program

May 12, 2021

Amoroso Construction is proud to participate in OSHA's 2021 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction Week, which took place May 3-7.  In a year unlike any other, which brought a host of new safety requirements to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus on jobsites, it is important to remember the danger that our construction employees face every day from falls on the jobsite.

Our staff takes jobsite safety seriously every day of the year.  Amoroso's industry-leading safety record is a direct result of their commitment.  In addition to our weekly site-specific safety meetings and regular monitoring by our dedicated safety managers, participating in the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction Week provides our employees additional education and resources to minimize safety hazards and prevent falls.

The purpose of the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction Week is to raise fall hazard awareness to prevent fatalities and injuries. According to the United States Department of Labor – Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees. In 2019, 401 construction workers died from falls to a lower level, according to occupational data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (as of December 2020).

OSHA has teamed up with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the construction sector of the National Occupation Research Agenda (NORA) to raise awareness about fall hazards in construction and how to prevent them. The three key objectives their campaign is based on are: PLAN-ahead to get the job done safely, PROVIDE the right equipment, and TRAIN everyone to use the equipment safely.

In partnership with the US Army Corp Department of Engineers, Amoroso's field staff at the VA Long Beach Community Living Center jobsite held Safety Stand-Down meetings every day for the entire week to discuss hazards, protection methods and Amoroso's safety policies and goals.

Amoroso's Experience Modification Rate (EMR) for 2020 was 0.57 which is below the industry average of 1.0. With that said, we would like to thank everyone at Amoroso, as well as our partners, for their commitment to observing our safety policies.

Amoroso Construction will be holding a company-wide stand-down as soon as California's re-opening guidelines safely permits. Stay tuned for an update in the coming months.
