Safety is an interesting topic at Amoroso; it's simultaneously the source of our biggest frustrations and greatest pride. We are never simply satisfied with our safety efforts because satisfaction can breed complacency. Yet we are exceedingly proud to be one of only 21 contractors in all of California who have achieved membership into Cal OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program. While many contractors shy away from OSHA inspections and enforcement we've actively partnered with Cal-OSHA in this rigorous program to maximize worker safety and better serve our clients. And, while Amoroso's leadership team and Safety Department have provided the framework for an award winning Safety Program and continually look to improve and streamline the process, the success of the program originates with the tremendous efforts of all Amoroso field personnel.

As we come to the end of the 2013 calendar year we wanted to share some of the statistics that demonstrate the sheer magnitude of all of your efforts combined. Over the course of the past year, Amoroso's workforce of dedicated carpenters and laborers have accrued over 268,023 man-hours of self-performed labor spread throughout multiple jobsites. At the same time our project teams have overseen the accrual of 415,994 man-hours of subcontractor performed labor. Over 1,400 individual safety alerts have been written during this period, each of which potentially prevented an OSHA citation, accident, or even worse, an injury.

As you know the Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is a method of measuring an individual company's safety record against the industry standard. During the economic downturn over the past few years, many less qualified and poorly performing contractors have shut their doors, resulting in a smaller pool of contractors, representing a somewhat smarter and safer industry. Yet during this time as the industry becomes more competitive and the industry standard becomes safer, Amoroso's EMR has remained at or near record lows for the company. This metric enables Amoroso to continue to successfully qualify for nearly every project we wish to pursue, and provides a tangible benchmark of our superiority over our competition on those potential projects. All of this is made possible through the willingness of every member of Amoroso's Safety Team to continually improve our safety efforts and refine our standards.

The safety program has become so robust that it requires continuous training to take full advantage of every tool it provides. Over the course of the coming year, the Safety Department will continue to provide an emphasis on safety training in our Quarterly Safety Meetings, such as falsework and scaffolding safety procedures, as well as implementing the industries new World Hazard Communication Program, rather than simply focus on our past results. We welcome suggestions and feedback on our current programs as well as ideas for new initiatives.
