Amoroso Construction bid farewell to four of our most valuable team members in 2021.  Combined, the four superintendents had over 100 years of service with Amoroso and more than 150 years of construction industry experience.  Though we certainly miss their presence on jobsites and the significant contributions they have made to our firm, to the men and women they mentored, and to our communities through their exceptional leadership, we wish them the very best in the next chapters of their journeys.

Bill Poulton, Superintendent in our southern California region, retired in the beginning of October in 2021, after serving Amoroso for five years and the construction industry for 46 years.  During his tenure, Bill was an integral part of some of our most challenging projects, including the South Region High School #8 and Crenshaw High School Performing Arts Center Projects for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), and the Northern Branch Jail Phase Project for the County of Santa Barbara.

Superintendent Steve Halloran retired at the end of October 2021 after 42 years with Amoroso's northern California region and in the industry.  Beginning his career with Amoroso as a carpenter in 1979 at the age of 19, he was quickly promoted to foreman and then to Superintendent.  Some of the projects that highlight the diversity and reach of Steve's experience in every sector that Amoroso specializes in include:  the Crime Lab for the County of Santa Clara, Juvenile Hall Replacement for the San Francisco Department of Public Works, and the Police Southside Substation for the City of San Jose in the civic sector; the Performing Arts Center for Ohlone College, Evergreen Valley High School Project for East Side Union High School District, John O'Connell High School Project for San Francisco Unified School District, and Liberty High School Project for the Liberty Union High School District in the education sector; the Water Pollution Control Plant for the City of San Leandro in the infrastructure sector; the Cahill Station Terminal for the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) in the transportation sector; and most recently, multiple projects in the healthcare sector, some of Amoroso's largest and most complex projects to-date—the VA Palo Alto Radiology and Parking Structure and VA Palo Alto Research and VMU projects for the Department of Veterans Affairs and the VA Stockton Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) for the USACE, Sacramento District.

Amoroso lost another invaluable Superintendent from our northern California region at the end of October 2021 when Mark Green retired after 27 years with us and 47 years in construction.  Mark was Superintendent on some of our firm's most iconic projects in a variety of sectors, including the San Francisco Piers 1 ½, 3, and 5 for the San Francisco Waterfront, the Pulgas Reservoir Project for San Francisco Pubic Utilities Commission (SFPUC), the Rinconada Water Treatment Plant for the Santa Clara Valley Water District, the Trousdale Residential Care Facility for Peninsula Health Care District, the Foothill College Modernization for the Foothill-De-Anza Community College District, the VA Palo Alto Radiology and Parking Structure, and most recently, the Atherton Town Center Project for the Town of Atherton.

Finally, after 30 years as a Superintendent with Amoroso's southern California region and 46 years in the industry, Walt Tanzmeister also retired in late October 2021.  Like the three men described above, Walt's project experience shows the value he has brought to our company, to those he supervised, and to the projects he worked on, including the iconic Griffith Park Observatory Renovation for Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Department and numerous projects in the public education sector, such as the CHASS Instruction and Research Facility for UC Riverside, Irvine Valley College Life Sciences Building for South Orange County Community College District, and the Modified Consent Decree/ADA Upgrades, Emerson Middle School Redevelopment, South Region High School #8 and Middle School #2, Porter Ranch Community School, Colfax Charter Elementary School Classroom Addition, and Crenshaw High School Performing Arts Center projects for LAUSD, to name a few.

Amoroso is honored to have been the company they chose to serve for so many years.  We will continue to benefit from their service through the many men and women they trained and supervised.  Their contributions to the firm will be felt for years to come.
