This Veterans Day, which will be celebrated November 11, Amoroso Construction and its employees are taking a moment to thank those who have served our country and to show gratitude for the freedoms they have provided us.

For more than 30 years, our company has been building facilities to help support the nearly two million veterans living in California. Through our work on six of the state's Veterans Affairs (VA) campuses, our project teams have been able to play a small part in providing the deserving men and women who seek treatment through the Department of Veterans Affairs with the healthcare they need.

One Amoroso employee in particular found a deeper meaning behind his work as the Senior Project Manager at the VA Palo Alto campus.

Jeff Gant, who began his first VA project in 2015, comes from a long line of veterans. In fact, his mother and father met at a United Service Organizations (USO) dance in Oakland while they were both serving in the military during World War II. His two uncles also served in WWII for the Army and the Navy, and his father-in-law served in the Army during the Korean War.

With his family's history in the military, it's not a surprise that his son also decided to enlist.

Joining the United States Marine Corps in 2002, Chris Gant was stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and went on to serve for four years with deployments to both Haiti and Iraq. Following his return home, he spent four more years in the reserves before retiring in 2010.

Since returning home, Chris has had to live with PTSD and turned to the VA healthcare system for help and for general medical care.

"My wife, Leslie, and I are extremely proud of our son and all of the military members who unselfishly give a commitment to our country and are willing to sacrifice their lives for our freedom," said Jeff Gant.  "The VA Hospitals and Clinics are very near and dear to our hearts as the system has been very instrumental in providing assistance and treatment for Chris' PTSD."

Chris now runs his own company called Dusty Trails in Fillmore, Calif., where he trains dogs for obedience, agility, scent work, search & rescue, sheep herding and to be service dogs for his fellow veterans.

For the last five years, Jeff has spent his days managing the construction of the VA Palo Alto Radiology Facility and the VA Palo Alto Research Facility. During this time, Jeff has made sure to stop and talk to the veterans on campus to show his appreciation.

"We should all reach out to those who have served to say thank you," says Jeff. "They have all had tough times and it helps when someone reaches out to them or lets them share their stories."

"The work I am doing on the VA Palo Alto projects and the upcoming VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic project in Stockton has a very special place in my heart," said Jeff. "It's great that we are able to assist the Veterans by constructing modern medical facilities that can provide the best care possible for those who very much are deserving of it."

Jeff Gant will continue his work for the VA Healthcare System as he leads the new VA Stockton Outpatient Clinic project which broke ground Nov. 8.
